Our office remodels kitchens, bathrooms and laundry areas, and we come at it from the plumbing side first — which is the right order. Tile and vanities are the visible half. Drain slope, venting, valve selection and what is behind the wall are the half that determines whether the room ages well or starts generating service calls.
Because we are a plumbing shop rather than a general contractor who subs the plumbing out, the rough-in gets done to a Master Plumber’s standard rather than to whatever passes inspection.
What a remodel with us includes
- Planning the rough-in around the room you actually want. Fixture locations, drain routing and venting worked out before demolition rather than discovered during it.
- Replacing what should not go back behind new tile. If we open a wall and find galvanized supply or aging CPVC, that is the moment to fix it — not after the tile is set.
- Doing the finish work to match. Shower and tub installs, valves, fixtures, and the trim, set properly and tested.

The repipe conversation
A remodel is by far the cheapest time to repipe, because the walls are already open. Homes across this area still carry galvanized steel supply lines from their original build, and a lot of the 1990s-era work used CPVC that is now brittle enough that fittings crack when disturbed. Both are common finds once demolition starts.
We would rather flag that possibility with you at the estimate stage than surprise you mid-job. If it turns out the walls are fine, nothing is lost. If they are not, you already knew it was on the table.
Historic homes
Abingdon in particular has a lot of genuinely old housing stock, and older homes complicate a remodel in ways new construction does not — original framing that is not where drawings say it is, prior work layered over prior work, and drain lines routed to suit a floor plan that has since changed twice. It is workable, and it is worth doing carefully. It is not a job to hand to whoever is cheapest.

Usually yes. The variables are drain location, floor structure and whether the room can take the new pan without moving the drain. That is a site-visit answer, not a phone answer.
